2 Indian drivers might race in Formula E at the Berlin E-Prix 2024. Here's how:
Jehan Daruvala joins Maserati MSG Racing for 2024, but there is a chance that we can get another Indian driver in Formula E
Imagine the electrifying streets of Berlin witnessing the presence of not just one, but potentially Two Indian drivers battling it out on the track for the first time. This possibility stems from a scheduling clash on May 11th, where both the Formula E's Berlin E-Prix and the World Endurance Racing Championship's 6 Hours of Spa are set to unfold concurrently.
The dilemma faced by top-tier drivers like Nyck De Vries, Stoffel Vandoorne, Jean-Eric Vergne, Nico Muller, Antonio Felix Da Costa, and Robin Frijns adds a layer of excitement to the scenario as these drivers race in Both categories for various teams. These racing stalwarts must make a pivotal choice between participating in the World Endurance Championship at Spa or Formula E in Berlin.
Indian Driver Jehan Daruvala, will be racing in Formula E for the 2024 season with Maserati MSG Racing. It will be Jehan’s first year in Formula E.
Jehan participated in Formula 2 till 2023 where he scored 4 Wins, 5 Poles 18 Podiums 4 Fastest Laps 370 Points in 4 seasons.
Jehan will be one of the 2 Indian Drivers we talked about at the start of this piece.
However, the plot thickens with a CHANCE inclusion of Kush Maini, an Indian F2 driver, who was recently announced as the reserve driver for Mahindra Racing.
Maini stands ready to step in as a substitute for Nyck De Vries who is one of the 2 Full-time Drivers for the Mahindra Racing team. On Nov 20, 2024, Nyck was also announced to join the Toyota Gazoo Racing team to race for them in the #07 Car at the FIA World Endurance Racing with Kamui Kobayashi and Mike Conway, which means Nyck will be one of the drivers of FE who will have to choose between racing at Formula E at Berlin or at 6 hours of Spa at WEC in Spa Francorchamps in Belgium.
Maini was recently announced as the reserve driver for the Mahindra Racing team.
Kush Maini currently (2023 season) drives in Formula 2 with Campos Racing, Kush also announced that the 2-time Formula 1 world champion Mika Hakinnen will be mentoring him for his motorsports career. This opportunity for the Formula E drive comes at an interesting time as Jehan builds on his F2 career and could prove beneficial in his endeavor for a future Formula 1 or a Formula E seat.
Together, Maini at Mahindra and Daruwala at Maserati could form a dynamic duo of competitors, proudly representing India on the global stage of Formula E. The clash in schedules of the Berlin E Prix and WEC 6 hours of Spa may set the stage for a potentially historic moment, promising an adrenaline-charged spectacle for Indian motorsport enthusiasts when 2 Indian drivers share the grid at a Formula E race.
